What is a Franchise and how does it work?


A franchise is a business opportunity that allows the franchisee to start a business by using the franchisor's expertise, ideas and processes. When you start a Cygnets franchise, you are opening your own branch of Cygnets in your area. It's your own business, but we provide you with everything you need to start and run it, and are here to help and guide you along the way!




What does the Franchisee do?


Pay the initial licence fee to the Franchisor and attend the training week. Set up and carry on the business in their area in accordance with the Operations Manual. This includes: sourcing venues, hiring staff, marketing, taking bookings, planning and running classes, payments and accounts. Advertise and run for at least the minimum Cygnets services offered: term time classes, holiday workshops and private tuition, using projects from the Project Manual. Use their best ability to grow and expand the business within their area. Maintain their availability after school on weekdays, and Saturdays. Or hire someone to teach who is available at these times. Maintain their availability within term time and school holidays: - At least ten state school weeks each term time. - At least two days each week of state school half term. - At least two days in two separate weeks each state school Easter holiday. - At least two days in three separate weeks each state school Summer holiday. Pay the Franchisor the 10% Franchise Fee of all income received to the business.




What happens at our training week?


One-to-one or small group detailed training week (4 days) with Cygnets director Tabby Booth including: Two-three days of in-depth Operations Manual study - looking at all elements of how to set up and run your business. One day Project Manual study covering: how we teach; use of different materials, and practice projects. Opportunity to sit in or help with real Cygnets classes at the end of training days, for first hand experience of how they're run.




Is Cygnets the right fit for you?


NECESSARY​​ ATTRIBUTES Core artistic skills/background: we teach traditional art methods so having basic drawing skills is required. (Unless you plan on hiring separate teachers to teach classes.) Strong self-motivation to run your own business and work hard to achieve your goals. ​​ Availability within term time and school holidays (if teaching): at least ten state school weeks each term time (after school & Saturdays); at least two days each week of state school half terms (daytimes); at least two days in two separate weeks each state school Easter holiday (daytimes), and at least two days in three separate weeks each state school Summer holiday (daytimes) Strong customers service skills: via telephone, email and in person. Decent spelling and grammatical skills. ​​ Ideally located within your territory: you’ll need to get around your area easily and know your community well. So while individuals outside their territory will be considered, it’s beneficial to run the business locally ​​​ Right to work in the UK and Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. (You don't need to have this already to apply - but you will need to get one before becoming a franchisee) Access to laptop with Photoshop (or similar), as well as basic Photoshop skills.
